Special Guest Speaker: Internationally Celebrated Screenwriter
Robert Orr! [Robert may join us in person or by teleconference].

Robert Orr has been an International Screenwriting Phenomenon ever since his very first script, SAVIOR, was produced by OLIVER STONE and starred Dennis Quaid.

Here is an excerpt from Roger Ebert's Description of the film:

"Francois Truffaut once wondered if it was really possible to make an anti-war movie, since war films were inherently exciting, and we tend to identify with one side or the other. Here is an anti-war film. "Savior" is not subtle. Directed by Peter Antonijevic, a Serbian who is even-handed in his treatment of both sides, it was produced by Oliver Stone and his longtime colleague Janet Yang from a screenplay they purchased from Robert Orr, who was inspired by a true story. The symbolism is heavy-handed and the movie pounds its insights home with big, bold strokes. But Quaid and Ninkovic find the right tone for their relationship; it doesn't get soppy, or turn into phony romance, but remains hardened by war. And the end of the story is cathartic but not "happy" in a contrived way."

A movie like "Savior" is a reminder that human nature does not inevitably take us upward to higher moral ground, but sometimes drags us down to our dog-eat-dog beginnings."

Through production rewrite, story, writing and/or directorial credits (as detailed on his website)
Robert has helped to create such International blockbuster films as UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION and UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS starring KATE BECKINSALE, TEARS OF THE SUN starring BRUCE WILLIS and THE RESIDENT starring HILARY SWANK, winner of two Oscars for Best Actress. Robert's Directorial Debut film includes the award winning Blind Turn. Love Unlimited Film Festival & Art Exhibition is honored to have Robert Orr share a special presentation based upon his increasingly amazing experiences in the screenwriting and film industry!

Hip-Hop Artist and Leading Actress of the Award Winning 'Closet' Music Video

JenRO takes it back to her adolescence & resolves her coming out with her accepting mother. A day at school for mini JenRO is not a typical day for the average girl at school.

The music video is dedicated for awareness to all LGBT youth who have contemplated suicide in the past years

After the music video: Live Performance of "Closet"! Also, After the live performance, meet the Artist and Assistant Director! Q+A with Hip-Hop Artist JenRo.

"On stage, JenRo looks like your average, aspiring hip-hop star, with mic in hand, hat cocked to the side, baggy jeans, and a hip-hop attitude that is both cool and confident. A quick scratch below the surface reveals, however, that JenRo is anything but average. JenRO, from the Bay Area, CA is one of the smartest and most creative hip-hop artists to emerge in recent years. Far from a gimmick, JenRo has the skills and beats to blow away the typical stale male rappers. With lyrics about sexual identity, self-acceptance and hanging out with her home girls, JenRo might be one of the most honest MCs rapping today. JenRO has been quickly discovered by local media including her recent appearance on VH1’s show, “My coolest years” and MTV’s LOGO.

"What's striking about JenRO, though, is her inclination to mix the different sides of her personality, making the seemingly disparate worlds she inhabits – queer, Latina, gangsta – all of a piece."

Every opinion in the short is being expressed by a character that is developed from the original drawings of the people that have expressed these opinions. The animated short is part of the Director's research on how animation can act as a tool for peace at the Glasgow School of Art.

5 45pm “14 Minutes.” [See trailer] Afterwards, Meet the Director! Q+A w/ Elise Plakke

Film: 14 Minutes - [State Premiere]

Director's Statement: From Elise Plakke

My films are about the complicated nature of human relationships in postmodern times. I seek to examine the self and society in an attempt to rethink standard assumptions. 14 Minutes reveals that happiness is personal and often not related to popular notions of happiness. The main character in 14 Minutes, Chloe, is engaged to get married to a successful man and based on stereotypical narratives, should be thrilled. Yet Chloe realizes that in losing her voice and spontaneity in the relationship, she has lost a piece of herself, putting her happiness second to the stability of the relationship.

Women and men often stay in relationships in a comfort zone because it is easier to go along with a semi-fulfilling relationship than break it off to find the ultimate relationship. The film illustrates that learning to see the world through a different lens offers introspection and a chance to redefine ourselves.

After the film: Meet the Director! Q+A with Elise Plakke, the Screenwriter & Director of 14 Minutes. In addition, 14 Minutes is a Short that is part of her ongoing feature length film. Elise is the screenwriter for the full feature, and will read an excerpt of a scene not in the short film after the Love Unlimited Screenplay Exhibition on February 26th, 2012.

About the gardens:

Zilker Botanical Garden is located on 31 acres of varied topography on the south bank of the Colorado River near downtown Austin. Its diverse topography is especially suited to depicting different habitats and displaying an array of native, hybrid and exotic plants. The Garden is the centerpiece of Zilker Park and the Lady Bird Johnson Lake (Colorado River) corridor and is its most extensively used facility.

See more of the gardens and features at Zilker Botanical Garden:

They have exotic, native, and hybrid plants. The gardens are right down the street from Barton Springs, so you can explore the gardens and then have a swim!

The Barton Springs Pool.

What is Barton Springs? When most locals are asked to think of their favorite things about Austin, Barton Springs Pool is often around the top of the list. The behemoth pool, three acres in size, is man-made, but it is fed by underground spring waters that stay an average of 68 degrees year-round. More information here about Barton Springs.

Themed gardens:

The Zilker Botanical Garden is divided into several themed gardens. There is a Japanese garden with a pond containing koi fish. There is a butterfly trail and garden in addition to a rose garden. There is an herb and fragrance garden and a cactus and succulent garden. Believe it or not, there are is also a prehistoric garden. Paleontologists discovered that dinosaurs once roamed these grounds, so the plants in this two-acre garden represent the type of plants from the Cretaceous period, when the dinosaurs were here. There is also a life-sized statue of the Ornithomimus, the dinosaur that left tracks here.
Zilker Botanical Garden…In the News!

Butterfly visits Azaleas in bloom @ Zilker Botanical GardenOn Sunday, May 2, 2010, The New York Times travel section featured an article, “Welcoming Spring in Texas Tones” (by Jan Benzel). One of her destinations was Zilker Botanical Garden. She writes:

My sister, Nancy, who lives in Austin, was my host and guide for the rest of my wildflower tour of Austin and its surroundings. In the city proper we visited Zilker Botanical Garden, a verdant respite with mini-gardens, almost like rooms, spilling from one to another over some 30 acres. With a blacksmith’s shed and antique tools in one spot and fossilized dinosaur footsteps in another, it’s well suited to keep children content and interested while their parents stroll or sit.

Austin is a stop on a major butterfly migration byway; one section of Zilker is chockfull of butterfly bait, particularly plants like sedums, coneflowers and passionflowers. Elsewhere there are waterfalls, streams with rock steps to skip across, and formal rose beds….
