Oliver's Treasure

An Animated Comedy: DVD/Color/NTSC/2 min 18 sec.

Synopsis
Down on his luck again, the likable and plucky, if opportunistic, knight, Sir Oliver, is on the run. Stumbling into the king's receiving room, Sir Oliver finds himself to have dodged his pursuers, but to find the old monarch's crown was left forgotten on the throne. Intrigued at this unique, valuable, and fragile find, the easily distracted Sir Oliver gives the crown a try to see how it sits on his head. Trouble quickly returns when a searching knight tracks down Oliver's hiding place. Oliver's treasure is an animated comedy using Three Dimensional Computer Generated Imagery to bring the characters to life.

About the Filmmaker

Be careful what you say to your children. Watching Ray Harryhausen’s Jason and the Argonaughts with his father, four year old Chuck Grieb asked how the skeletons “came alive”. His father’s answer, “They got skinny actors” led the boy to a quest for the truth and a lifelong love for film and animation; by the time he was seven he was working on his first Stop Motion Animation model. Chuck has been working as a professional in the field of Animation since 1996. Having completed his MFA in film production at the University of Southern California; Chuck has worked for Disney, Nickelodeon Studios, Film Roman, as well as various other animation studios. Employed as both a traditional and digital artist; Chuck has filled roles from design, to storyboarding, to animation. Currently, Chuck teaches traditional and digital animation at Cal State University Fullerton.

About the Production

Oliver's Treasure revisits the world of Chuck Grieb's earlier film, Roland's Trouble, introducing Roland's (one day to be) best bud and confidant, Sir Oliver. Oliver, our hero, finds himself on the run; but overly confident and easily distracted, he becomes curious about a special item he has discovered in the room in which he has hid. A storyboard was drawn, the film was timed, characters prepared, and environments modeled. Rebecca Norris provided the wonderful original score. Oliver's Treasure was storyboarded in TV Paint, the animation was created using Autodesk Maya and Mudbox, composited in Adobe After Effects, with post production being completed in Adobe Premiere.
