When you think of 'love' what comes to mind?
It is the one driving life force that links us all together as human beings. It spurs us, challenges us, comforts us, frustrates us, controls us, and stretches us. People kill for it, die for it, and live for it. But it is what we all strive to experience, in its fullness, at our deepest core. And when we do...it is sublime.
Optional: Were you part of art, a film or a script that was accepted by the Love Unlimited Film Festival & Art Exhibition? If yes, please give the full title and then describe it in vivid detail. We welcome all cast, crew, writers, artists and others to sign up. If you are a friend, family or fan of an artist, film, or screenwriter please describe that as well. We sometimes list community members on our awards page as well.
The title of our screenplay is "Held"
The seed of the story is based on a true story my writing partner stumbled upon 10 years ago, in a holocaust survivor museum. She was so touched by it, she wrote it on a scrappy bit of paper, which she lost over the years. But when she told me the story, it haunted me and I hounded her until we sat down and wrote it....It basically asks the question...How far would you go to save the life of a stranger?

Held
A reclusive and myopic Dutch professor finds himself in a race against time to save the life of a critically ill Jewish university student hiding in his attic during WWll. In a last desperate attempt to save the young man’s life, he injects himself with the disease to find a cure.

Held* is a historic, character-driven drama in the vein of Schindler’s List and Anne Frank. It follows a solitary Dutch professor and an idealistic Jewish university student who hides in the professor’s attic during Holland’s occupation. Problems arise when the student contracts a life threatening illness. The only way for the professor to save the young man’s life is to inject himself with the disease to find the cure.

The story reaches a climax when the professor becomes so ill with the disease that he is rushed to the hospital. Delirious, he slips in and out of consciousness unable to move or trust anyone with his secret. Every minute he is gone risks the young man’s life, not only from dying from the disease, but also from being discovered in the attic by the professor’s Nazi loving niece.

This is a story about a most unlikely of heroes.

*Held means "hero" in Dutch and is a common Dutch name.
